artist statement
As a kid, when I was falling asleep, I regularly experienced the sensation of being pulled out of my body and stretched like putty in space. It felt soothing, like relief, and I looked forward to these “pulling sensations” at night. I thought everyone experienced this. I was surprised when I described the experience to my mom and she could not relate. I can see these “pulling sensations” when I look at my current drawings, surrounding the forms and stretching them as if by their own gravity.
I’m a queer, psychic intuitive, multi-media artist. I work primarily in the medium of sharpie marker and am moving steadily into the medium of oil paint. I work spontaneously, without a preconceived plan and without editing, embracing chaos and seeking harmony through pattern and color. I view the marks I make as impressions of my engagement with unseen presence or “currents.”
My drawings vary from monochromatic to intensely polychromatic, minimalist to complexly layered, but all share a sensation of movement and disorienting perspective. It is my belief that these forms are intended to move the viewer’s energy in corresponding ways as a sort of visual acupuncture for our energetic bodies, moving us closer to harmony. I read these finished works the same way I read the tarot, and I encourage viewers to do the same.
